IKKI Mountbellew

Sensei Colin O’Connell 3rd Dan Karatedo, 1st Dan Kobudo is the head instructor of the IKKI Mountbellew dojo. When clubs open again in line with the Governments pathway to recovery, Sensei Colin O’Connell will resume classes in the IKKI Mountbellew dojo. Sensei Colin holds the rank of 3rd Dan in Karatedo, 1st Dan in Kobudo. Colin started his karate career in 1989 in the honbu in Ballinasloe under Sensei Leo Mulvany. Sensei Colin also trains at the Honbu in Ballinasloe.

Mountbellew is the youngest club in the Itosu-kai Karatedo Ireland group. It began under Sensei Geraldine Mulkerins in January 2008 and who retired from karate in December 2011. Sensei Jake Mulvany became Mountbellew instructor for the following five years and later Sensei’s Martin Ryan and Ray Coen. 2020 sees Sensei Colin O’Connell take up the reins in Mountbellew.
Other instructors have given their time to the Mountbellew club over the last 2 years and a huge thanks to Sensei’s Aaron Fortune, Evan Donelan and Senpai Kieran Egan.
